PDEA destroys 14.29 billion pesos of confiscated illegal drugs

MANILA, Philippines – Up to 2.5 tons of illicit drugs seized in recent operations with an estimated street value of 14.29 billion pesos have been destroyed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Integrated Waste Management Inc. facilities in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires, Cavité yesterday.

The volume of illegal drugs destroyed is said to be the largest in the history of law enforcement in the country.

It consisted of 2,076.523 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, 426.479 kilos of marijuana and 18.357 kilos of ecstasy.

“I believe this activity symbolizes the fulfillment of duty and transparency and serves as an additional stepping stone that will lift this agency to greater heights in the years to come,” said the vice president-elect and city mayor. of Davao, Sara Duterte-Carpio. a speech read by PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva.

Carpio urged the public to support the government in its fight against illegal drugs.

“Together, let’s further promote a safer environment for all through our continued support of our law enforcement’s various drug addiction programs and campaigns,” she said.

Villanueva praised the National Bureau of Investigation, noting that NBI agents seized 1.5 tons of the destroyed shabu in Infanta, Quezon in March. “I want to thank the NBI dahil kayo ang nagpalaki dito,” he said.

Illegal drugs were destroyed by thermal decomposition, which breaks down chemical compounds using extreme heat.

Villanueva said the disposal of dangerous drugs follows the guidelines established in Republic Law 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

He thanked various courts for the speedy prosecution and settlement of drug cases.

P544-M shabu seized in Cavite

Meanwhile, around 80 kilos of shabu worth 544 million pesos were seized yesterday in Cavite.

PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon said 60 kilos worth 408 million pesos were confiscated from Dominador Omega Jr. and Siegfried Garcia in a subdivision of Barangay Paliparan II in Dasmariñas City around 8 a.m. .

The arrested suspects also reportedly handed over equipment used to make shabu, such as a butane stove and rectangular plastic containers, as well as drug paraphernalia.

Elaine Maningas, Ricardo Santillan and Laurel dela Rosa were apprehended at Barangay Buenavista II in General Trias City.

The PDEA said around 20 kilos of shabu worth 136 million pesos, mobile phones and identity cards were recovered from the suspects. – Ed Amoroso
