Parish Man, 22, is arrested for illegal drugs

Kelvin Jewel Thomas, 22, a resident of Highway 424, was arrested June 7 in Pine by a Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy. While on a crime patrol, the deputy noticed Thomas kneeling next to his vehicle in the parking lot of a Pine business. As the deputy approached, Thomas seemed very nervous and kept putting his hands in his pockets.

The deputy was informed by dispatch that Thomas had an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. As the deputy questioned him, Thomas indicated that he had a narcotics pipe inside his vehicle. While searching the vehicle for the narcotics pipe, the deputy discovered marijuana, Suboxone and methamphetamine. Thomas was arrested and transported to the Washington Parish Jail.

Thomas was jailed on three counts of possession of illegal drugs, lack of a driver’s license and contempt of court. He was released from jail the same day after posting bail.

Thomas was previously arrested in 2018 for traffic violations, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer with force, assaulting a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice. He was released from jail the same day after posting bail.

“Illegal drugs are a blight on Washington Parish,” said Sheriff Randy Seal. “We cannot make it go away, but we can and will do everything in our power to try to control it by identifying and arresting those who own, sell or otherwise become involved in the illicit trade in Drugs.”
