Mangaluru: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) holds drug awareness session

Mangaluru, June 25: Students of MA Journalism And Mass Communication (MAJMC), St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in association with non-governmental organization TELOCA Addiction recovery center and Sharada Pu College, Mangaluru organized a social event. “Breaking the bad”, a drug awareness session, which was led by Dr. Shrinivas Bhatt U. The session took place on June 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the auditorium of Sharada Pu College, Mangaluru. Dr. Shrinivas Bhatt U, Prakash Nayak, Dayanand Kateel and Father Cyril D’Souza were the dignitaries.

“Breaking the bad” is a drug awareness program organized for young students, with the aim of educating young students about the harmful effects of drug addiction and alcoholism. Dr. Shrinivas Bhatt led the session, where he spoke about the appalling effects of drug addiction in our society and how it kills life. He also shared his experiences of treating several drug addiction cases. He is a Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatry at KS Hegde Hospital, Derlakatte, Mangaluru.

A total of 113 students, girls and boys, participated in the session, which was followed by an interactive forum, allowing the students to clarify their doubts related to the subject. Prakash Nayak, vice principal of Sharada vidhyalaya PU college and Father Cyril D’Souza, representative of Teloca recovery center also addressed the assembly.

TELOCA – An acronym for ‘Tender Loving Care’ is an aptly named public charitable trust and addiction recovery center in Ullal, Mangaluru. The main aim of the Trust is to provide support in the recovery of people suffering from the dreaded disease of alcoholism, to raise awareness of this problem, to support family members of alcohol dependence and to organize drug prevention programs and activities.
