Ex-policewoman arrested for selling drugs

A DISMISSED Bicol policewoman was arrested by members of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) after she sold illegal drugs to a poseur buyer in Camarines Sur, police reported yesterday.

Director of IMEG Brig. General Warren De Leon identified the suspect as ex-Corporal Richelle Magalona Mata, a resident of the town of Bato in Camarines Sur and formerly assigned to the Camarines Sur Provincial Police Office.

Mata was nabbed by officers from IMEG-Luzon Field Unit Team 5, supplemented by other police units and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, during a buyout operation on Friday after -last noon in Barangay San Rafael, in the city of Bato.

Three heat-sealed plastic bags containing 13 grams of shabu, worth 88,400 pesos, and the redemption money were seized from her.

She is being held at the Bato Municipal Police Station while charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are pending against her.

Mata went on leave without official leave after testing positive for illegal drug use in 2019. Later discharged from service, she engaged in selling shabu in Bato, Naga City and other areas of Camarines On.

De Leon said a “worried citizen” who believed Mata was still an active member of the PNP helped gather information against her, which led to her arrest.

“Due to some PNP personnel claiming to be active even though they are no longer part of the PNP organization, we continue to intensify our internal cleanup program against active, terminated and retired PNP personnel” , said De Leon.

“This is done to ensure that all our past efforts and successes will not be wiped out. Indeed, we can achieve so much if we work together,” added De Leon.
