CEBU City will host the Department of Home Affairs and Local Government (DILG) Simultaneous Nationwide Launch of its Illegal Drug Program on November 26, 2022.
Mayor Michael Rama renewed his commitment to support the national government’s campaign against illegal drugs during the courtesy visit of DILG Undersecretary Marlo Iringan and Deputy Secretary Francisco Cruz to the premier’s office on Friday, November 4.
In a report by the Public Information Bureau, Rama said that the city government would help in the preparation of the DILG’s program “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (Care for life, avoid illegal drugs)” or Bida .
Cebu City has been selected as the host for the program, which will include other local government units from the Western, Central and Eastern Visayas.
Cebu City’s DILG officer in charge, Dr. Neila Aquino, said they had already met with the city administrator and the heads of the city’s Office of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, the Cebu City Transportation Bureau and Office of Drug Abuse and Prevention for the necessary preparations for the said event.
The program will take place in Plaza Independencia and approximately 5,000 participants are expected.
Activities on the program include a fun run, biking and zumba. These will be held simultaneously with the other host cities in Luzon and Mindanao.
Aquino said Rama’s “close friend”, DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., was the one who decided Cebu City should host the event for the Visayas.
She said the purpose of the activity is to promote advocacy for drug abuse prevention among barangays, government employees and even those who have already graduated from the government’s community-based drug treatment program. (IRT, PR)
