Reservist arrested for drug and illegal arms trafficking after pursuit – The Observer


Lee Jardain Hart, 38, of the reservation is facing multiple charges of illegal drugs and weapons after a car and foot chase through a neighborhood on the reservation.

On Friday, April 29, 2022, at approximately 12:15 p.m., patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with illegally tinted windows in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 3900 block of the West Airline Freeway in Reserve. The driver, later identified as Hart, stopped momentarily but then fled the officers at high speed, traveling recklessly down the West Airline Highway turning onto East 22nd, East 27th, Perrilloux and East 26th streets.


Approaching East 25th Street, Hart jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle hit a mailbox and then a tree. After a brief foot chase, officers detained Hart in the 100 block of East 26th Street.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered multiple MDMA pills and marijuana in the vehicle, digital scales, over $700 in cash, an AR-15 in the front passenger seat, ammunition and a weapon fist on the driver’s side rear seat. The AR-15 was reported stolen in the parish of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. While scanning the chase area on foot, officers found plastic bags containing MDMA pills and plastic bags of cocaine that he had dropped on the ground. A computer check also showed Hart was wanted for contempt of court and as a convicted felon, after being paroled on narcotics charges.

Hart was booked for the driver to be fired; theft from officer’s vehicle (misd), hit-and-run (misd), illegal carrying of weapon with CDS, illegal possession of stolen firearm, possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicle, possession of cocaine less than 28 grams (felony), possession of Oxycodone, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia 3rd offence, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia 3rd offense (felony), possession with intent to distributing crack cocaine (crime), possession with intent to distribute marijuana (crime), possession with intent to distribute MDMA (crime), reckless driving (misd), traffic incident, view outwards or inwards through the windshield or windows; obscuration prohibited; and possession of a firearm/carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon (felony).


Hart is being held in lieu of $242,600 bond.
