PDEA destroys P53.4-M value of illegal drugs in Western Visayas

These illegal drugs were those confiscated by PDEA officers in their illegal drug control operations and used as evidence in courts, which have already issued rulings on the cases.

PDEA-Western Visayas spokesperson Shey Tanaleon said 6,280.0099 grams of shabu worth P 53,380,084.15 and 427.0784 grams of marijuana worth 64,167.06 P were subjected to thermal destruction led by PDEA Regional Deputy Director Donelyn Hemedez.

Tanaleon said the PDEA-Western Visayas lab started recovering illegal drugs since July of this year, with cases decided as early as 2012 and others as recent as 2020.

Tanaleon said it was the first thermal destruction of illegal drugs in the province, and the second and last in the region for this year, following the first thermal destruction in Jaro, Iloilo in March.

It was in August of this year that PDEA visited the facility to seek management approval to use it as a venue for said activity.
