PDEA destroys 11.8 million illegal drugs in Davao

THE CITY OF DAVAO: The Davao regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed illegal drugs worth 11.8 million pesos on Wednesday, March 16.

PDEA-11 in its report stated that a total of 771.0722 grams of shabu worth P11,566,083 and 2,109.58 grams of marijuana worth P253,150 were burned and destroyed at the Philippine-Japan Active Carbon Corp. in Panacan, this city.

Destruction of seized illicit drugs is in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Section 21 of Republic Act 9165 of the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002”.

Judge Emmanuel Carpio of Section 16 of the Davao City Regional Trial Court and City Attorney Jhoppe Avanceña led the destruction of prohibited substances handed over by authorities whose destruction was recently ordered by the court.

The burning of illegal drugs was also done to erase public skepticism about recycling items seized by law enforcement.

PDEA-11 Director Aileen Lovitos commended the efforts of the local government unit, the Philippine National Police, other law enforcement agencies, the media and the community for their unwavering support in the fight against illegal drugs.

“This collaborative effort from the five pillars of the criminal justice system serves as a warning to all drug traffickers that we are working hand in hand to suppress the supply of illegal drugs in our country,” Lovitos said.
