Former TOWIE star James Argent has revealed he put his love life on hold in order to focus on recovering from addiction.
Arg, as he is affectionately known, confessed that although he secretly dated a woman from his gym on Valentine’s Day, the relationship did not progress further.
The 34-year-old said the reason was partly because he didn’t feel ready for anything serious as he vowed to stay sober and healthy after long, well-publicized battles against drug addiction and binge eating.
Speaking to MailOnline, he said: “It could hurt me. I can have a strange date, kiss or hug, but in terms of a serious relationship I think it could be a bit later.”
After losing an incredible 11 stone in less than a year after having a gastric sleeve fitted, Arg added that her focus now is on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“I think I had to learn a very hard and tough lesson, sometimes when you’re sober for a long time you have this stinky thought where you think you don’t need to go to meetings anymore.
“You may also start to forget how bad things were in the past and you may even think to yourself, ‘Oh, this time it might be different, I can have a few drinks, I can handle this time, I can control this time.’, but when you’re addicted, you can’t.”
Throughout his career, Arg has been linked to TOWIE co-star Gemma Collins, but their on-and-off relationship – which began in 2012 – later ended in 2020.
The TV personality has already been the subject of another high-profile connection, when he dated fellow co-star Lydia Bright, but the pair are now just close friends.
He revealed he hoped to see a woman by his side in the future, saying he would like a “lovely woman to join him in Woodford Green” one day, “potentially having children” together.
