Dismissed soldier in Pangasinan arrested for selling illegal drugs

PANGASINAN – Law enforcement authorities arrested a discharged member of the Philippine military on Wednesday in Brgy for his alleged involvement in illegal drug trafficking. San Leon, Umingan in this province.

Pangasinan Police said the suspect, Mark Christian Velo, 40, was a high-value individual priority target for being a member of the so-called Valera Drug Group.

Authorities confiscated an abstractly designed purse bearing the inscription “Bicol” containing five heat-sealed transparent plastic bags of white crystalline substance of suspected shabu and weighing an estimated 5 grams or so.

Raid teams also found an unsealed clear plastic bag believed to be shabu residue, a .22 caliber rifle, live ammunition for Cal. 5.56 and for cal. 22.

The joint personnel of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (main unit), the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Umingan Police, served the suspect with search warrant no. T-18-2022 issued by Hon. Judge Rusty M. Naya, Executive Judge, Br 51, Tayug Regional Trial Court, Pangasinan for violation of RA 9165.

The execution of the search warrant was done in coordination with PDEA-R01 San Fernando La Union.

The suspect was taken to Umingan Community Hospital for medical examination while the confiscated items were brought to Urdaneta City Forensic Unit in Urdaneta Pangasinan for drug test and a lab examination, according to Staff Sergeant Rennon Mislang.
