April 26 – ACOSTA – An Acosta man was jailed on Monday, accused of receiving 12 pounds of marijuana in the mail in the United States, authorities said.

Hollidaysburg State Police charged Justin William Hartman, 41, of the 100 block of Sixth Street, with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

According to a complaint affidavit, the United States Postal Inspection Service contacted state police to report suspicious packages being mailed.

Using a federal search warrant, authorities opened the packages and found 12 pounds of marijuana, according to the affidavit.

Soldiers and postal inspectors set up a watch at the Acosta post office and observed Hartman entering the post office and then leaving with the two packages.

Hartman was arrested upon his return for a third package, according to the affidavit.

Hartman said a 3D printer was in the third package but wasn’t sure what was in the other two packages because they weren’t his, according to the affidavit.

When Hartman was asked who the packages were for, he said he wanted an attorney, police said.

Hartman was arraigned by Appeal District Judge Sandra Stevanus of New Centerville and sent to the Somerset County Jail after failing to post $25,000 bond.
